Recommendations "I met Mary through Stanford Engineering for Good, and asked her to manage usability testing for mobile technology for our Bhutan Patient Outcomes and Environmental Monitoring program. Mary's leadership in this effort went far beyond what I anticipated - Mary led the project through complex organizational tasks, organized working groups across two government ministries. She achieved communication about, agreement upon and engagement in a critical solution to major health and eco-health challenges. I endorse Mary for her leadership skills, demonstrated through effective engaging, collaborating, co-creating, and influencing government officials and physician and technology partners on mobile and information technology discussions and implementations. I have personal experience with her effective communication, for example in elucidating technical architecture diagrams to both non-technical and technical audiences, and in her presentations during conferences and meetings. I endorse her creative and evolutionary thinking, exemplified by addressing the benefits of virtualization technology to include efficiency, higher availability, reduce energy use, advised on Tech Innovation (with audiences including Ministry Secretaries and Prime Ministers). Mary has impressed me not only with her leadership skills, her communication and management abilities, but with her energy and heart. Mary is direct and honest - a person in whose motives one may place full and total trust. She ensures all of her efforts in the world add global value, yet with a clear understanding of sustainability and how to achieve this. She is professional and right-minded. It is a great privilege to work beside her, and deeply inspiring to see people of Mary's caliber and ability working, with great intelligence, spirit, insight and fortitude, for the good of the world." This organization is based in Silicon Valley with the vision of doctors and technologists working together to solve some of the worlds health and environmental problems. While working with Mary, we had to confront some of the technical, logistic, cultural, and political issues involved with some of GHRF's projects, and I have always found her ideas to be insightful, sensitive, and creative.
Mary was brought in to help manage a mobile health related project in Bhutan. This required travelling to Bhutan for a period of 2-3 months along with a small team from GHRF. Upon arriving in Bhutan, she immediately set to work understanding and identifying the people she needed to work with. Within a few days had high level meetings set up, and had identified a working group to oversee the project. While the rest of the team was in Haa carrying out the usability testing of the product, Mary spent much of her time in the capital, Thimphu, laying the groundwork and nurturing those relationships needed to carry the project forward in the future.
Mary is the ultimate "people person". She views every person she meets as a potential contact, business relationship, and above all as a friend. She is so well connected that seemingly impassable doors find themselves opening. She is not the "schmoozing" type - instead she genuinely enjoys getting to know people and building relationships based on mutual respect, trust, and friendship.
Mary is always searching for creative solutions to some of the bigger problems we face. At a recent meeting with the Secretary of Information in Bhutan, we were discussing the fact that Bhutan's IT talent can't compete with that from India and China. She came up with the idea of holding a "Hackathon" event - an idea which was very enthusiastically received.
Mary has built up an immense set of knowledge and experience over her career. Her expertise includes software engineering, developer tools, open source software communities, the green economy, electronic commerce, ventures and startups. Her management, leadership, and people skills are right up there with the best of the best. She has a strong set of global values and ethics, has a high level of integrity, and is passionate about some of the issues facing our planet such as climate change, malnutrition, and poverty.
I have no hesitation in recommending Mary - she would be an asset to any company or organization she works for." She came highly recommended via contacts at the University of Edinburgh and the Edinburgh Stanford Link. The growing interest in Green Tech, alongside Mary's expert profile, soon led to multiple requests for her to speak at Universities and Business Groups and meet with private companies across Scotland. She is an excellent speaker with a deep knowledge of her subject area. Not only did we have a great response from the green, tech and design communities who hosted her, but we also had a good deal of media interest which raised the profile of the Girl Geek Scotland Network. http://www.rgu.ac.uk/news/-world-wide-waste-talk-on-green-it-highlights-energy-issues http://ecoprotection.blogspot.com/2010/04/mary-vincent-green-it-innovation.html I have no hesitation in recommending Mary's work.
